1. Construction of a precise discrete plane-to-plane diffraction propagation model, and object wave field reconstruction in terms of inverse imaging. Due to the averaging within the pixels at the object and sensor plane, the constructed discrete diffraction transforms in the spatial (F-DDT) and spatial domains (M-DDT) gives close to perfect object reconstruction for small propagation distances and enables manipulating with rectangular pixels what is crucial for the practical use of a spatial light modulator (SLM) – CCD camera optical setup (e.g., for the wave field synthesis). 2. Development of a multi-plane parallel phase-retrieval algorithms focusing on the object plane (in contrast to the conventional successive algorithms), what allows aggregating a number of object estimates, suppressing the noise in the object estimate, and use a priori information on the object. 3. Improvement of the object reconstruction quality by incorporating an iterative sparse regularization of the object amplitude and phase (separately), and compensating of the cumulative disturbance in the optical system (estimated using an additional calibration procedure). The object filtering is realized by the modern powerful BM3D-frame filter resulting in the state-of-the-art object imaging. The developed phase-retrieval algorithms demonstrate the reconstruction quality by an order of magnitude better comparing with conventional phase-retrieval techniques. 4. Speedup of the computational phase-retrieval algorithms (up to 10-12 times) by implementation on a graphics processing unit (due to the reconstruction of large images of the size, say, 2048×2048). For comparison of the computational efficiency the developed parallel phase-retrieval algorithms were implemented by C/C++ in MEX-files (using BLAS/LAPACK) or in Matlab with CUDA 4.1.
